I was thinking about the whole 2008 NASCAR Season. Things stick out in mind like yesterday and other things are fading fast like it happened 20 years ago.

Also I headed over to the Stewie Awards and voted on everything. So that helped me remember more “stuff”.

So then I just got curious about what sticks out in your mind the most from the 2008 season BESIDES Ryan Newman winning the Daytona 500?

That question goes for both Ryan Newman and the NASCAR Season as a whole. I have a lot of stuff right off the top of my head.

Ryan Newman - The first thing that sticks out for me is Newman winning his debut Craftsman Truck Series (now Camping World Truck Series) race. Only 3 (???) other drivers had done that before. And to be honest, if you look at the stats the first person to do it was in the first Truck race ever. Someone had to be the first.

Overall all season seeing him struggle on the straightaways and usually be able to stay with people in the corners. Just frustrating.

Also, Jeni and I along with the 2 kids got to meet Ryan Newman for the first time this year. That was a great day overall. We had fun at MIS and then meeting Ryan and him being REALLY cool to our 2 year old was awesome.

And believe it or not, there were plenty of races that Ryan Newman did good at this season. Auto Club Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Richmond International Raceway are some of the tracks he did good at. You can see his complete 2008 season here.

As far as NASCAR goes? I have a lot of stupid things in my head. Like Kyle Busch just being and arrogant little…….yeah. Yelling at his crew about having an awful car when he was leading. As far as Kyle goes, there is a lot more.

Carl Edwards bumping him (Kyle Busch) out of the way. That was GREAT! Of course once Kyle caught him at the end of the race he retaliated by banging his car into Carl’s a couple of times….classic.

Then there was Juan Pablo Montoya, referred to by some simply as JPM. To reinforce the fact that I don’t think he is all that great of driver (at least not up in the clouds where the media and others think he is), he get mad at Kyle Busch. Under caution he decided to spin out Kyle. Great! Except that he doesn’t know how to properly do it and spins himself out as well. I really laughed. Oh well.

We saw Hendricks struggle for awhile but of course Jimmie Johnson got the championship. Gordon went winless? And the Jimmy Spencer said on Raceday at Homestead-Miami Speedway that Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a great fan base, but that Jr. really wasn’t that great of a driver. I am surprised we didn’t get a JR NATION uproar out of that. At least I didn’t see one.

There is so much more.

What sticks out in your head? I know I listed some negative things, there were plenty of positives as well.

Oh yeah, 1 more. This is a huge positive. Jeni and I got to go to the fall race at Martinsville Speedway. Our first NASCAR Sprint Cup Race. We thought we were addicted to NASCAR before…..now it’s on!

That’s very true that there were a lot of great moments in 2008. Going to Martinsville for our first Sprint Cup race was definitely the top one. That was an awesome experience and now I think I’m even more addicted as well! A totally different experience than just watching it on TV.

Even though I don’t like Kyle Busch, he did have an amazing season up to the chase. He was dominating this years season for Cup.

Newman winning the Daytona 500 was pretty amazing too, but unfortunately we weren’t able to catch him in Victory Lane again for the Sprint Cup. Seeing him win his Truck Series debut was pretty cool though.

McDowell’s crash was pretty spectatular as well. It was an awesome crash to watch, but nerve wracking on the condition of McDowell himself. Thankfully nothing tradgic happened. But the crash was awesome!

Overall I think it was an exciting season and I can’t wait for 2009 to start!

I am very excited as well for 2009. I saw the McDowell’s crash live on the TV is was amazing. I really am look forward to watching Newman getting up to the 18 and racing him for wins. I think SHR will surprise alot of people next year. The one question i have is, does anyone have any idea what sponsor will run the other 14 races in 2009. I am so excited to order the new Newman gear! Lets go Ryan Newman!!

I was told that with all of the lay offs and such after the season ended it will be awhile before anything is completed and announced. It will all be in place prior to Daytona.
