Newman and Stewart it is!!
I have to say that I am happy with this news. I think some people have taken some of my comments towards the “anti-Stewart-HAAS Racing” side of things. That is not the case at all, there was just at least one other team I would have really like to see Newman go to.
But I am happy for Ryan and Krissie Newman finally and hopefully getting this nailed down.
While reading this article it seems it is not 100% a done deal, but I think we can consider it done deal. When we hear something about sponsors we will let you know.

BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT (TICKER) —Tony Stewart apparently has found a new teammate for next year.
Ryan Newman has reached a verbal agreement to drive for the newly-formed Stewart-Haas Racing next season, according to a report posted Wednesday by ESPN.com.
The deal reportedly could take up to a month to finalize and announce as negotiations continue for car sponsors. The addition of Newman would give Stewart-Haas a pair of Indiana-born drivers with a combined 45 victories and 53 poles in NASCAR’s premier series.
Newman, the reigning Daytona 500 winner, was widely rumored to become the second driver for Stewart’s team after announcing two weeks ago that he would part ways with Penske Racing at the conclusion of the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season.
According to the report, Newman will drive the No. 4 Chevrolet Impala next season.
Newman had been pursued by Joe Gibbs Racing, Evernham Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing and Petty Enterprises since announcing he would not return to Penske.
But Newman reportedly decided on Stewart-Haas after JGR was unable to nail down sponsorship to start a fourth team. JGR president J.D. Gibbs confirmed Sunday at Indianapolis that Newman no longer was a factor in the team’s plans, and that a fourth team was unlikely for 2009.

Well at least now we know!!! I think things will work out well for them. Now it’s time for us to be prepared to buy stuff with the #4 on it! Hopefully he gets a good sponsor too!

Newman has now bee with Ford, Dodge and Chevy.
Remember Mark Martin was using HMS engines at Ginn and he was the points leader in 2007 when HMS was dominating. But he chose to run a partial schedule. With the right drivers SHR can be very good.
If Mark can do it so can Ryan and Tony.
Gibbs cannot get a sponsor? Strange?
I for one am thrilled! I think we are going to have great season. You got to remember that it is a completely different thing next year! Curious about the sponsor. That is the next step….. I wonder too about Gibbs and a sponsor. Except you know that they are having a tough time getting new sponsorship in NASCAR and most current sponsors are already locked in at this point.
Just read the ESPN article…. It is Newton. Are we completely believing it at this time???? Talk to Truex.
I agree… i think we can all assume that he will be in the #4 chevy impala for Stewart-Haas racing next year. But lets not jump the gun too quick and go on David Newton.
Just read something about Bass Pro—- I know that they have a good working relationship with Tony and with Ryan and his fishing tournaments. Could be good. But they article I was reading linked Truex and Bass Pro with SHR? What do you think?
I think that Ryan will have 2 of these 3 sponsors. UPS, Burger King and Bass Pro Shops. My bet would be Bass Pro Shops and UPS. But we’ll have to wait another month to find out.
What does anyone think about the quick denial from Truex regarding his re-signing with DEI? Tony stated that he was going to be a 2 car show next year…. sounds to me like Truex may also be in negotiations with him on the #4?
What I find interesting and irrelevant now is that it looks like Newman wanted to go to JGR and JGR wanted him. But there were sponsor problems for a 4th team.
A 4th team huh? I have not heard confirmation that Lagano was taking the #20 yet……but that may be the confirmation!
Anyway, I am excited about next season. Carrie is right about Mark Martin and Hendricks motors. I was rooting and rooting for Mark Martin to keep missing races and stay in the top 12. In fact it was really cracking me up…..except of course for the fact Newman couldn’t break 12th spot…got to 13 and 14 a lot…but still.
On to Stewart-HAAS Racing with Hendricks Motors (and chasis’s….or at least I am sure it is more than just motors). In a Chevy. Newman (and Stewart) should do well over there.

I could definatley live with Bass Pro and UPS. Of course it doesn’t matter…I could live with whatever sponsor Newman has.
Glad to see Ryan with SHR. They may start out slow but I’m predicting a win apiece before the years over. Then watch out in 2010.

What’s your thoughts on Matt Borland taking over as Ryan’s crew chief? Think people would expect too much too soon?
I wouldn’t mind seeing Ryan and Matt back together. I think people would be very excited to see that combo back together again. I don’t think that anyone is going to (or at least shouldn’t) expect to much to soon.
Jeni (my wife) thinks along the lines that you do I think (and I agree as well). So - we think - Newman and Stewart are going to start off slow/rough next season. But that is only to be expected when a new team is formed - Nothing against the Indiana Boys.
But, somewhere around mid-season they will start coming around. A win a piece by years end sounds good to me. Not only would that be great for them, but it would be great for the whole “New Team” atmosphere.
I just know that I am excited to see Newman out of the Dodge and getting in a Chevy….a Hendrick Chevy at that. And let’s face it….Tony has proven time and time again that he can own/manage race teams very well. I am POSITIVE that will transfer over to the Cup series.
I noticed that someone in Apex, NC registered the domain name of Ryan4newman.com. Apex is not too far from Moorseville. Could this registration done on the behalf of Ryan’s Fan Club (currently ryan12newman.com) or by a potential cybersquatter?

The fan club’s PO Box is in Statesville, NC. I have know idea of my geography down in NC.
If it is a squatter….well….they is nothing wrong or illegal about it. Maybe they can make a little money off of it. Good for them.
I have absolutely nothing to do with the fan club, but in order to get more people to this site, I sure would have grabbed that domain name if I was thinking about it.
