It’s Official? Stewart Is Leaving Gibbs?
I hate to say anything is official until I hear it for myself from the one person that knows it for fact.
But, FoxSports (and others) are reporting the Tony Stewart is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing after the 2008 Season.
Mike Arning, a spokesman for Stewart, said an announcement concerning Stewart’s future would be made Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
Stewart is expected to gut HAAS/CNC and bring in his own people, including a second driver. Fellow Indiana native Ryan Newman is among those rumored to be in line to join Stewart’s team next season.
That is what Stewart is expected to do, but of course I(we) have not heard anything out of Ryan Newman’s camp.

Well even if Stewart mentions something about Newman going along with him, I’m going to wait to hear it from Newman himself. Everything else is just hear-say. Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing Newman with a new team, a new start and hopefully a better year.
NASCAR.com and JGR announced that as of Wed they have agreed to release Stewart from his contract. Big news. Big conferences within the next few days and I believe it will be announced this weekend at the Brickyard.
I think Newman would do well with Stewart Haas. It should be a great move for him. Do you think he could compete for championships?
I wrote about Stewart’s move today on my blog as well:

I think he will finally be in a position to compete for the championship…. I heard that he might be buying in also? Would love to hear something about that. I think staying with Penske Racing would be detrimental at this point. And it is not just him…. look at Busch. He is a former champion and is struggling. Don’t look to see him stay at the end of his contract either.
The press conference is on Thursday.
We still do not know who will sponsor the 2nd car and who the Crew chiefs will be?
Will Borland get another chance or will it be Bootie Barker?
Not sure…. think Tony will do some cleaning up though. Is the press conference for Stewart? Will he be announcing a second driver on Thursday?
I was sure it was, but I did not want to officially say it was official until I knew for sure.
Well, all the press reports, Tony’s interview on NASCAR Now and about a billion other things say that it IS NOW OFFICIAL!
And that is all fine and good. I wish Tony luck. Personally, I think maybe Tony is getting ready to retire…..maybe not right away or even in the next couple of years. But this is leading to it.
BUT I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT NEWMAN! :)
