Ryan Newman Post Race Martinsville - Goody’s Cool Orange 500
Ryan Newman finished 19th and 1 lap down for the Goody’s Cool Orange 500 at Martinsville today. This dropped him 3 points in the points standings to 1tth place.
Your winner for todays race was Denny Hamlin.
The weather at Martinsville started off kind of shaky today. Rain was in the area but it held off long enough for the NASCAR race to be completed.
Ryan’s performance today was ok but he did not finish that well at all.
Here is what I saw today.
On lap 21 Kurt Busch gets into the rear quarter panel of 22. Newman ends up getting in the back of 8 while everyone is slowing down. I don’t think there was much, if any, damage.
On the second pit Newman must have only taken a couple of tires. He gained 8 postions leaving pit road.
By lap 90, Dale Earnhardt JR had led 42 laps of the race. Ryan Newman was running in the 16th saying that the car is loose coming off. As soon as he gives it gas the car kicks out.
On lap 169 Dale Earnhardt JR passed Newman putting him a lap down.
The half way point of the race, at lap 250, Newman was 1 lap down in 28th position.
Newman almost found disaster on lap 295 when Greg Biffle got into the back of him. At this point Newman was the first car a lap down in position for the lucky dog. Newman and McCauley have been talking about if they get back on the lead lap, then can gain some positions.
When Biffle got into Newman it sent him spinning. A result of that is that Newman ended up getting into Johnson just a little sending Johnson spinning. I don’t believe Newman or Johnson received any real damage.
Newman restarted in 31st.
At this point in the race, rain is sprinkling on and off. No cautions for this.
Lap 366 found us restarting after yet another caution. At this point Newman was the first car a lap down. On the restart Dave Blaney had problems on the restart and held up all the lead lap traffic as Newman and the other cars that were a lap down or more took off.
Newman was now on the lead lap in 26th, but not really that far in front of the leader Jeff Gordon.
Gordon was able to catch Newman and put him back down a lap on lap 378.
A caution later came out and Newman got the lucky dog. By lap 420 Newman was in 19th and on the lead lap.
Lap 453 and the announcers say that Newman’s car is being looked at for possibly losing fluids. Newman has dropped to 22nd. Denny Hamlin is the leader and right on Newman’s bumper.
Newman is spilling some smoke and Hamlin went around him on lap 458 putting him back down a lap.
Newman finished the race 19th and 1 lap down.
