Ryan Newman and this COT
I have been reading here and there how Ryan Newman’s average finish in the COT last year was around 10. That wouldn’t be too bad considering his average finish for the year was 18.6.
16 of the 36 races last year were in NASCAR’s new COT. It is now commonly called the Car Of Today (instead of tomorrow). Out of the 16 races in the COT, Newman had an average finish of 13.31 and and average start of 15.13
Out of those 16 races, 5 were part of the Chase. Newman and his team really stepped up their performance during the Chase. For those 5 races Newman had an average finish of 9.8 and an average start of 14.
If you then combine the last 5 COT races of 2007 with first 2 races of the 2008 season you come up with an average finish of 8.57 and an average start of 12.86.
Of course for the 2008 season so far, Newman has an average finish of 5.5 and an average start of 10.
So, do Roy McCauley and Ryan Newman have this COT figured out? Newman finished a lot better than usual at Daytona (yes he won the Daytona 500) and at California.
I sure hope so. Ryan deserves a great year and I think this may be it. Can’t wait to see what happens at Las Vegas. Partake in the poll on this page regarding Las Vegas.
